The splitting of an unstable nucleus into two or more lighter more stable nuclei and releasing energy.
nuclear fusion (combining)
The combining of two lighter nuclei into one heavier nucleus resulting into energy.
What is the heavier nucleus that is created in fusion?
The two isotopes of hydrogen called “heavy” are _____ and _____.
tritium and deuterium
Nuclear _____ occurs on the sun.
Nuclear _____ is used in power plants.
In several paragraphs, throughly discuss nuclear medicine include what it is and how it works. Please use proper grammar and mechanics.
Nuclear medicine is the diagnoses and treatment of disease. Nuclear medicine is a tool that allows doctors to find what is ailing a patient and be able to give that patient the best possible prescription to make them better.
One can find the diagnosis by an imaging process. Diagnostic by imaging can detect a lot of different diseases, even cancer. When doctors begin to detect the diagnosis, a radiopharmaceutical is injected into the patient. The radiopharmaceutical then travels throughout their entire body and locates the problem area. The patient is put into the camera and it produces images known as X-rays, PET scans, CT scans etc. that allow the doctors to see inside the patient and locate things like tumors.
When the lesion is found, another radiopharmaceutical is injected into the patient, it finds the problem area and begins to kill the disease.
Nuclear medicine applies to cardiology neurology, oncology, orthopedics. The images that are produced by nuclear imaging help foreshadow how a patient will respond to a treatment. The imaging allows doctors to look inside someone’s body and see the organs and what is wrong with them so that they can find the best treatment option possible for a certain patient.
In several sentences, explain how a nuclear power plant works. Please use proper grammar and mechanics.
A nuclear power plant produces heat energy from atoms. That heat is used to bring water to its boiling point to make steam, that steam is used to generate huge steam turbines that connect to generators, which make the electricity. To begin, uranium fuel loads into the reactor. Then, control rods raise and lower into the reactor to sock up neutrons and speed up and slow down the chain reactions. Then, water is forced through the reactor to grab the heat energy that was made. Then the heat exchanger turns the water into steam, which is put into a turbine. Then the generator produces the electricity.
Why might nuclear fusion be a better source of energy on earth than nuclear fission?
The energy released in nuclear fusion is much greater than the amount of energy released in nuclear fission. Also, nuclear fusion has no production of greenhouse gases from the fusion process and no long-lived radioactive waste.
