Types of Oceanography

Published by admin on

the branch of science that deals with the physical and biological properties and phenomena of the sea
Physical oceanography
the study of physical conditions and physical processes within the ocean, especially the motions and physical properties of ocean waters. Physical oceanography is one of several sub-domains into which oceanography is divided
Biological oceanography
the study of life in the oceans—the distribution, abundance, and production of marine species along with the processes that govern species’ spread and development
Chemical oceanography
the study of ocean chemistry: the behavior of the chemical elements within the Earth’s oceans. The ocean is unique in that it contains – in greater or lesser quantities – nearly every element in the periodic table
Geological Oceanography
the topography, structure, and geological processes of the ocean floor to discover how the Earth and oceans were formed and how ongoing processes may change them in the future
