War of 1812
(JM), 1812-1815, Resulted from Britain’s support of Indian hostilities along the frontier, interference with American trade with France, and impressments of American sailors into the British army (Leopard on Chesapeake) (1812 – 1815), Embargo Act
War of the Spanish Succession
war fought over the Spanish throne; Louis XIV wanted it for his son and fought a war against the Dutch, English, and the Holy Roman Empire to gain the throne for France
French Revolution
1789-1799. Period of political and social upheaval in France, during which the French government underwent structural changes, and adopted ideals based on Enlightenment principles of nationalism, citizenship, and inalienable rights. Changes were accompanied by violent turmoil and executions.
Balkan Wars
Serbia, Greece, Bulgaria took Macedonia from the Ottomans in 1912. Serbia then fought Bulgaria in the second Balkan War in 1913 Austria intervened to stop the war. These wars were mostly territorial and were a precursor to World War I.

(1756-1763 CE) Known also as the French and Indian war. It was the war between the French and their Indian allies and the English that proved the English to be the more dominant force of what was to be the United States both commercially and in terms of controlled regions.

(1618-48) A series of European wars that were partially a Catholic-Protestant religious conflict. It was primarily a batlte between France and their rivals the Hapsburg’s, rulers of the Holy Roman Empire.
The Russian Revolution
Led to Russia withdrawing from WWI due to a communist takeover of their government. Led by Vladimir Lenin.
The Spanish American War
Consisted of the conflict between Spain and the United States over control of Cuba and the Philippines
The Spanish Civil War
360,000 killed. A conservative politician, Jose Calvo Sotelo was murdered which sparked the war. Francisco Franco led the rebel military forces (Nationalists) against Republican Manuel Azana. It was a proxy war between Communism and Fascism. Results: Ultimate Nationalist victory. Spain stayed neutral during WWII and it reverted to constitutional monarchy after Franco’s death.
Franco Prussian War
Considered a one sided war. The Prussians invaded France and won a decisive victory against the French. The French reacted with sorrow, embarrassment, and felt that Germany’s unification would upset the balance. This war was also justified by the Germans by claiming it was fought to prevent another era of Napoleon from plaguing Europe.
Austro Prussian War
Bismarck wants Austrians out of German Confederation
Conflict with Austria over control over Schleswig-Holstein. War was started on purpose by Bismarck, who wanted to control German territory

Napoleonic Wars
A series of wars fought between France (led by Napoleon Bonaparte) and alliances involving England and Prussia and Russia and Austria at different times (1799-1812).
War of the Austrian Succession
(1740) War fought between Prussia, Britian, France, and Russia over the throne of Austria. The French and Austrians should have been overpowering, but the strong Prussian army allied with the strong British navy emerged victorious, with the British gaining many French colonies
