long term worry/view comparing to panic (which is more concurrent), preoccupation with health or appearance, physical complaints, no identifiable medical condition
Illness Anxiety
repeat checking of the body, less concerned about a physical symptom but more worried about the idea of developing an illness, preoccupation but no doctor, avoid getting any disconcerting information from the doctors,high family disease incidence (worried about heritability) know the statistics
Briquet’s Syndrome
feeling weak or ill, severe pain: physical symtpoms
Causes of illness anxiety
Disorder of cognition or perception, physical signs and sensations, cause is unlikely to be found in isolated biological or psychological factors, stressful family events, high family disease incidence, benefits of illness
